Tiny Thought:
“Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest."- Georgia O’Keeffe
Something to Ponder
“You can't outperform your attitude. What you believe about the work shows up in how you do the work, and how you do the work determines your results. Fix the attitude first. Everything else follows." - Shane Parrish
Q3 Fantastic Friday will take place on March 6th and will be an all-day event.

Teachers and administrators from DeKalb County Middle School will visit with us on February 9th and 10th. We will visit some classrooms and sit in on some PLCs. You do not need to do anything different. We will email the teachers and schedules next week. They want to see the great things we are doing here at WCMS.
P.S. I Love You Day is Friday, February 13th. We will also have Valentine deliveries that day I’m sure.

From Jennifer Rigsby:
ReadySub has been updated. You can now choose to select either Certified or Non-Certified subs when entering jobs.
Anyone planning to retire at the end of the school year, please call Jennifer Rigsby to set up an appointment to complete your paperwork. TCRS is predicting a big retirement year. Mrs. Rigsby wants to ensure that you are taken care of, so your checks are not delayed due to the large number being processed.
Approximately 50 8th-grade students will take NAEP for Mathematics or Reading on March 5th. More information will be given later.
We’re working on ARMOR re-focus for the semester. Let us know if you have ideas!

January Character Trait

Empathy
Students will learn that empathy is the ability to emotionally understand what other people feel, see things from their point of view, and imagine themselves in their place. Essentially, it is putting yourself in someone else's position and feeling what they must be feeling.

TTU Science Fair Information
At least 5 participants for 5-8 and 9-12
Competition - May 1
Art of Conservation: Fish Art Contest - The contest is free to enter, and students can submit one 2D piece and one 3D piece. All participants must enter original artwork of a Tennessee fish in a natural habitat and may not replicate another artist’s work. Photos or videos used as a source material for inspiration of the artwork are allowed. Goldfish, guppies, bettas, and koi are not eligible for this contest.
Additionally, TWRA is adding its own specialty award this year, The Bill Dance Signature Lakes Award, in honor of the legacy of fishing legend Bill Dance and the TWRA’s work to develop premier fishing destinations across the state. To be considered for the award, students should enter artwork of largemouth or smallmouth bass or art featuring bass fishing.
All submissions must be entered through an online entry form. More information regarding rules, submission form, and requirements can be found on the Wildlife Forever Art of Conservation website. The last day for submitting artwork is February 28, 2026.
Remember to highlight (brag on students who are following ARMOR) ARMOR student of the Day form. Let’s reduce our number of referrals and increase our number of highlights!
Please make sure you are taking attendance each period. The attendance call goes out at 9 am. Some parents are missing calls because attendance has not been submitted.
Remember to turn in your SWIS paper copies to your school counselors each day for entry. If you need a SWIS report printed to send home with a report card, please let us know.
Reminder: Everyone should be supervising hallways starting at 7:45 am and at all class changes, unless you have been assigned to another area.
Time for Time has started. See the calendar here: T4T Calendar
Please make sure to contact parents with behavior and academic concerns early and often. Contact about lunch detention. The more transparent we are with parents about issues we are having, the easier it is for conversations and concerns to be addressed. Let us know how we can help.
Reminder: Legally, your door must remain locked and closed while you are instructing students.

From Emily Barnes:
TN Code Annotated Section 49-6-1031(b) states that a student's parent or legal guardian must provide consent to the student's membership or participation in clubs/organizations. Testing sign on the door
Active monitoring
Quiet environments with limited distractions
iReady especially, proctors or do not test their own students (These scores are often used for Achievement Measures and must have full test security to count.) Suggestions for proctoring - swap teachers when testing, let aides proctor, leave doors open to allow for mobile proctoring of 2-3 classrooms
Updated General Educator Rubric - continue to focus on having standards posted and lessons aligned to the depth of specific standard(s) with student work that demonstrates mastery of or progress toward the standard(s).
